Sound Walls/ Vowel Valleys have really become all the rage the last few years. However I see teachers making this one mistake. They put the wall up and then don't USE IT! It just sits there looking pretty. I challenge you to USE your wall more this year. I came up with 180 daily question slides and task cards to help keep me focused and motivated. What a great bell ringer to warm up every day! It will encourage students to use the wall when they are reading and writing. It is a vital tool as long as you model using it. I took the guess work out for you. I also just added it all to my sound wall that has been one of my best selling resources. So if you already bought it you get all the additional resources for FREE! Just redownload it. Plus, don't forget to download your day 3 freebie to celebrate my 11 year TPT anniversary! If you didn't get day 1 and 2 no worries they are still there, but not for long! Also don't forget about the collab I am doing with some wonderful sellers! Get yourself something new to try this year! I'll be back tomorrow with more goodies to celebrate! Let's get pumped for BTS together! Amy

Students respond to the task (segmenting or blending) and then get to put a magnetic chip, or I have used colored puff balls before as well. It covers all of the phonemic awareness skills, and I have been using it for years. See...
Getting kids to want to read can sometimes feel harder than actually teaching them how to read. We can have the best phonics lessons, engaging small groups, and structured routines… but if the motivation isn’t there, it’s an uphill climb. That’s where reading incentives come in. They give students a reason to practice. They build momentum. They create excitement. And for many of our struggling or reluctant readers, that little spark of motivation is exactly what gets them over the hump. More...
I love to see what other teachers are planning. I thought I would share some of the activities we were doing this week to practice vowel teams ee and ea. If you have not figured out by now, I strongly believe in making reading practice fun. The students I work with need a TON of repetitions to master a skill. I have found MANY ways to successfully give them these repetitions, while also have fun! This keeps them engaged and is highly effective. This week we are working on ee and ea. It is so...
